On the south coast of Wales is Cardiff and is a port city. The city has an estimated population of around 246,000 people. There are around 100 state primary schools and 20 secondary schools, some of which providing teaching in Welsh, and a small amount of independent schools. There are four universities in Cardiff; Cardiff University, University of South Wales, Cardiff Metropolitan University and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Cardiff University was founded in 1883 originally as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire and produces a lot of research as a member of the Russell Group of universities. Cardiff is home to Cardiff castle, national museum and gallery Cardiff and castle Coch. Cardiff airport is an international airport owned by the welsh government.
